A new guide on how to develop national/regional HCV interpretations, for use as part of site-level HCV assessments and/or HCV screening at landscape and jurisdictional levels has been published.
The High Conservation Value (HCV) definitions apply in a wide range of geographical regions and production contexts, irrespective of ecosystem, scale or commodity. However, as topography, climate, biodiversity and social conditions may differ considerably, also between neighbouring regions, the definitions must be interpreted to make sense to the national or regional context. Commonly agreed HCV interpretations allow everyone to use the same framework – a key to avoid repetition and enable more standardised and cost-effective practices.
This newly revised and updated HCVN guidance outlines how to develop national/regional HCV interpretations for use in site-level HCV assessments and/or HCV screening at landscape and jurisdictional levels. It addresses how to initiate a working group, encourage broad participation, agree roles, responsibilities and scope, structure the work, consult on drafts, and finalize the outcome. It also outlines HCVRN support functions, and how to document due procedure.
