From October 21-25, 2019,  Haryo Ajie Dewanto, ALS Junior Quality Officer attended an HCV-HCSA Assessor Training Course imparted by Proforest in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Participants from various backgrounds attended the training: Licensed Assessors who wanted to learn more about the High Carbon Stock Approach (HCSA) and become HCSA practitioners, oil palm growers, NGOs, researchers, and many other organisations interested in HCV-HCSA assessments and its quality assurance.

HCV-HCSA Assessor Training Courses provide insight and skills needed to lead integrated HCV-HCSA assessments. Teaching methods range from presentations to role-playing, focus groups, Q&As, and field practice.

During the course, participants were taken to the Kuala Selangor Nature Park, where they conducted a mock HCV-HCSA assessment. Survey tools and checklists were used and participants were introduced to the Forest Integrity Assessment  (FIA) tool, which helps assess the state of forests.

At the end of the session, participants were expected to be able to make Management and Monitoring recommendations from the data collected and discussed during the training course.

For participants to succesfully pass the course they must complete an exam and elaborate a mock HCV-HCS assessment report.
