The Initial Check (IC) is an optional service provided by the HCV Assessor Licensing Scheme (ALS). ICs for HCV assessment reports cost US $500 and ICs for HCV-HCSA assessment reports cost US $750. The IC is independent of the ALS report evaluation process; the IC focuses on report structure and the Key Issues to see if the report complies with relevant reference documents (ALS templates, manual and guidance), thus reducing the likelihood of an unsatisfactory report during subsequent ALS evaluation. See the checklist to perform an Initial Check for details on what is covered. The IC is not a full, in-depth evaluation of the assessment report; it does not check the public summary or report annexes. The assessor can expect the results within three working days for HCV assessment reports and five working days for HCV-HCSA assessment reports. The result of an IC is the Initial Check Feedback which lists all changes recommended regarding Key Issues and structure. It may also include recommendations to improve the quality of other sections of the report.

I understand that the Initial Check is an optional, paid service that may help identify weaknesses in key issues in my report. I understand that the IC is not a full, in-depth evaluation of the assessment report and that the outcome of an IC is a one-off feedback form with recommendations on how to improve my report. The more thorough report evaluation process may identify weaknesses in key issues that were not identified during the IC.
